While some workplace accidents cannot be prevented, others never should have occurred. Whether an employer fails to train their staff properly or doesn’t address safety violations, it is especially tragic when people die in a workplace accident that could have been avoided. In San Bernardino, California, and across the nation, these accidents have claimed an alarming number of lives and everyone in the workplace should strive to prevent more accidents from happening.
A 19-year-old man from North Carolina recently lost his life in an accident that occurred on the job. The accident, which is being investigated by OSHA, took place on the teen’s first day of work. According to reports, the man passed away in a wood chipper accident when a tree limb he was feeding into the machine became stuck.
In an attempt to clear the wood chipper, the teenager was sucked in. The owner of the business apparently suffered a heart attack and other workers were very shocked after the accident took place. Authorities have labeled the death as accidental and do not believe there was any foul play.
While work accidents can be incredibly tough for the victims involved, they can also be very hard for the families affected. Those who lose a loved one may have lifelong emotional pain. Also, families may face financial problems when their loved one is no longer able to work. As a result, people who are trying to piece their lives together after an on-the-job accident should explore all avenues and may want to speak with an attorney and file suit.
